Chess board to be rededicated at Nicollet Middle School

Chess board to be rededicated at Nicollet Middle School

The Nicollet Middle School chess club – the Nicollet Knights – will hold a celebration and chess board rededication event on Sept. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Nicollet Middle School. The event celebrates the life-size chess board that had been installed previously at Metcalf Middle School and was moved to Nicollet this summer.

Along with witnessing the dedication, attendees will be able to meet current and former District 191 chess champions, play or watch blitz chess games, and enjoy refreshments.

District 191 has a long history of chess excellence, including multiple national and state championships for individual students and school teams. Brian Ribnick, chess coordinator for the district and retired math teacher, is a member of the Minnesota Chess Hall of Fame and was the first winner of the District 191 Spirit of Excellence Award in 2016.
