Rahn Elementary in District 191 named School of Excellence

Rahn Elementary has been named a 2025-26 Minnesota School of Excellence, an honor awarded by the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA). Rahn was selected for its deep commitment to celebrating diversity, fostering strong family and community partnerships and investing in teacher development to ensure each student thrives academically, socially and emotionally.

“Rahn Elementary is centered on inspiring curiosity, encouraging creativity and having high expectations for academic achievement for our students,” said Principal Brad Robb. “The Rahn community is strong, inclusive and the heart of who we are. We know that education doesn't happen in isolation. The support and collaboration of our families, local community and District 191 is essential to our success. Rahn is an exceptional place for teaching and learning, we are grateful to be selected for this recognition.”

Among the several characteristics MESPA pointed to in announcing the award was Rahn’s commitment to serving as a neighborhood hub, building community through events like National Night Out, partnership with the Open Door Food Shelf and collaborations with other local organizations.

Rahn was also praised for its intentional and reflective work to create a welcoming environment for students and families, and its investment in teachers through professional development that supports both academic and social-emotional growth for students.

“Rahn Elementary is doing incredible work in their classrooms and across their community,” said Michelle Krell, executive director of MESPA. “Their commitment to diversity, family engagement, and student success makes them a true example of what excellence looks like in Minnesota schools.”

School of Excellence status is given to a select group of Minnesota schools each year after they commit to a sustained period of self-reflection and peer review. The work centers around six research-based standards of effective schools in the areas of leadership, vision, student learning, the culture of adult learning, data and decision-making, and community engagement.
